Oracle Partner Network (OPN) specialisms. Its importance to Oracle end user organisations when selecting consulting partners

I recently had the pleasure of presenting at the UKOUG Conference in December last year on the importance of OPN Specialisms. I was joined by Frank Lauer and Dean Herback, both of Oracle. Frank is the Senior Manager Partner Enablement, Oracle Alliances & Channels and Dean is the Strategy Manager, Oracle Projects Development.

The presentations highlighted the importance of OPN Specialisations to the Oracle end user community and why end users need to challenge consultancies and consultants regarding perceived expertise. OPN Specialisms are the only true accredited programme to confirm competency.

The new Oracle partner model puts the emphasis on system integrators and consultants becoming specialised. This demonstrates to the Oracle market which consultancies have consultants who have been trained, successfully implemented specialist solutions and captured positive client references.

Frank’s presentation focused on the compelling reasons why Oracle has invested so heavily in the programme and why it is so important for end users. OPN Specialised Partners have proven advanced expertise in Oracle products; have trusted relationships with Oracle and deep understanding of the business challenges end users face. Frank referenced the Oracle Solution Catalogue and highlighted how specialised consultancies could be found and engaged globally.

Dean presented on the extensive process to develop and release the specialisation exams. Dean was heavily involved in the development of the exams and worked with the OPN team, Prōject and Oracle to complete the four exams for pre-sales, sales, support and implementation for Project Costing, Billing and Foundation.

I completed the session highlighting why becoming specialised was so important. The Executive Committee at Prōject have grown the company to its present size extending the practice and specialisms from Oracle Projects to the whole E-Business Suite (EBS) and Oracle Business Intelligence (OBI). All employees in the company are very passionate about becoming specialised and fully believe in the program. The Oracle Specialised Program differentiates those consultancies or individuals that claim to be specialists. The Oracle accreditation can only truly confirm skills and positive client references.
