As part of the Business Intelligence programme at Network Rail, it became apparent to the Executive Team that they did not have visibility of the Earned Value on the organization’s major projects.
The project was to firstly establish the Earned Value of the individual projects within any programme of works, and to then report on the Earned Value status in an easy-to-understand format.
The Prōject Team developed a system that mapped the planned value against earned value. This took data from Primavera and Oracle Projects and used PAR and APEX to calculate an Earned Value figure.
The earned value figures were then included within the four weekly management reports and broken down regionally against the planned value target. This was supported by Earned Value champion meetings and used by regional planners and finance team to track project progress.
The solution helps ensure that Network Rail is able to include the data within the CP4 report to the ORR/Department of Transport.
