Prōject’s Senior DBA and BI Developer, Robin Harris, delivered “Getting the most out Business Intelligence (BI) at Arriva” at the UKOUG Business Intelligence & Reporting Tools (BIRT) Special Interest Group (SIG) on Tuesday (11th March 2012) .
Presentation overview
Arriva, an Oracle OnDemand customer, implemented R12 of the E‐Business Suite along with several BI Applications back in 2011. A year on from the implementation, Arriva felt that they were not getting the most out of their investment in BI. Problems such as spurious or unexplainable figures in dashboards, long standing support issues with Oracle, poor performance and lack of in‐house expertise were all persistent.
Prōject was engaged to perform a short health check on Arriva’s BI infrastructure and processes, focusing on the Procurement and Spend Analytics BI Application. The health check resulted in a number of recommendations to help Arriva realize the benefits of BI. Prōject was then asked to follow up on the health check, to lay down a development framework, incorporating best practices, a robust release process and a reconciliation of the Data Warehouse. In addition to this, Prōject was also asked to resolve a number of long standing issues left over from the implementation.
This presentation will go through the steps taken by Prōject to define and implement a development framework for Arriva’s BI Team. The presentation also includes hints and tips for working with Oracle OnDemand. Download the presentation here.
